Nashville Artist Colaine Releases Debut Single “Overnight”

Up-and-coming Nashville artist Colaine released her debut single “Overnight” after finally finding the words to say after a negative experience in her life. Originally from upstate New York, Colaine is an independent artist and songwriter that makes songs to cry to, dance to, or both at the same time. She takes inspiration from artists such as Halsey, Charli XCX, and Kehlani.

With authenticity at the forefront of her artist mission, Colaine sings rawly about her struggles of suddenly feeling disconnected from someone. She sings “I tell you everything I think / Vomit my emotions like you’re my kitchen sink” in the first verse. By the second verse, she sings “Can’t explain why I’m still hurting / Opening credits then you just close the curtain.” The quick shift in lyrics and tone show Colaine’s true confusion of the situation and show the whirlwind of emotions rushing through her mind.

The bridge of the song ends with a slow build up behind the lyrics “How will I ever learn to trust / Guess there’s no defense against a stranger who knows too much.” When the music kicks back in for the final chorus, emotions are high and strong. The listener can hear the pain and struggle in Colaine’s voice as she passionately sings over the dreamy, poppy chorus instrumentals. When asked about the writing process for “Overnight,” she says the single was difficult for her to write.

“Being vulnerable is hard, and writing this song forced me to do it,” said Colaine. “The lyrics came first. I wrote the first verse my freshman year of college and knew it was the best thing I’d ever written at that point. After that, I put so much pressure on myself to make the rest of the song just as perfect, which was honestly unproductive. Sometimes you can’t and shouldn’t force it. I wrote a million second verses, choruses, and bridges and eventually came up with the final ones on the track.”

You can listen to “Overnight,” the debut single from Colaine, on all major streaming platforms.
